(SPOT.ph) Line 1 of the Manila Light Rail Transit System, specifically the Baclaran to Central Terminal route, has been around since 1984. Not much has changed save for expansions to Roosevelt in 2010 and a few repairs in the operational coaches. With more than three decades of serving local commuters, it’s not a surprise Manila's grit and grime have taken its toll on the terminals. This July 2018, the Light Rail Manila Corporation—in partnership with the Department of Tourism—plans to change what people think of Manila through the launch of ikotMNL, a walking tour around one of the Metro's main modes of transportation.

Tour operators like Carlos Celdran of Walk This Way Intramuros, Ivan Man Dy of Old Manila Walks, and Tralulu of Binondo Food Crawl also pitched in for this new tourism project. With their expertise, a line-up of tour packages were developed to highlight Manila's rich history and cultural heritage.

Popular stops include architectural wonders such as the National Shrine of Our Mother of Perpetual Help near the Baclaran station and the Shrine of Our Lady of Grace near Monumento station, beautiful museums such as the Museum of Contemporary Arts and Design near Vito Cruz station, hard-to-resist markets in Divisoria and Chinatown—both near Carriedo Station, and the historic Rizal Park near UN Avenue station.

The Light Rail Manila Corporation is yet to announce details about this upcoming project, but already we're excited to rediscover the best of Manila.
