You’ve got the surprise child, the car accident during a rainy night, the couples cheating on each other, the sudden amnesia—you know, the works. But one of the most highly anticipated episodes of any teleserye would be the wedding between the two leads that has everyone waiting out the seemingly endless commercials just to catch every second. Of all the TV dramas Pinoys wait for, we rank the best weddings based on their entertainment value—how dramatic and swoonworthy everything is—and the pop-culture impact they’ve had on viewers ever since they aired.
10. Ang Probinsyano (2015-present)
With 713 episodes of the long-running Ang Probinsyano, there’s no doubt that Cardo (Coco Martin) has been through hell and back, especially with his job as a police officer. That’s why fans were extra excited to see him finally get his own bit of a happy ending—even for a short while—when he gets married to Alyana (Yassi Pressman), a reporter who always follows him on his cases. Wearing a floral veil, Alyana walks down a grand staircase, through an arch of white flowers, and they exchange vows under a glass dome.
9. Dolce Amore (2016)
Serena (Liza Soberano) was adopted by a rich Italian family when she was young, but she’s always wanted to go to the Philippines because of her Filipina nanny and Tenten (Enrique Gil), her pen pal. And so, she escapes to the Philippines when her future marriage is arranged with someone she doesn’t love. There, she meets and eventually falls in love with Tenten, who also happens to be adopted but grew up poor and had to work hard for his family. After ironing out their family problems, the two tie the knot in front of all their loved ones—and a surprise (not to mention handsome) priest played by Ian Veneracion.
8. Ika-6 Na Utos (2016-2018)
When Rome (Gabby Concepcion) and Emma (Sunshine Dizon) encounter relationship problems, Rome ends up in an affair with Georgia (Ryza Cenon). With Rome believing that Georgia is pregnant, he plans on marrying her. Emma arrives just as Rome and Georgia exchange vows, but it’s not her who stops the wedding—it’s Rome’s reliable Manang Loleng (Odette Khan). She reveals how Georgia’s not really pregnant and proves it through a sneaky video recording. The collective shock of the crowd and the thrill of vindication make this one for the books. What more can you expect from a show that also went viral because of a water-gun fight?
7. Walang Hanggan (2012)
There’s a reason why this teleserye was one of the best-rated shows during its run. It’s actually based on Richard Gomez and Dawn Zulueta’s film, Sa Dulo ng Walang Hanggan, which in turn is loosely based on Wuthering Heights. Walang Hanggan’s intricate storyline spans three generations of two rival families. The main stars of the show are Daniel (Coco Martin) and Katerina (Julia Montes), who are essentially star-crossed lovers mixed up with a whole lot of family drama. They eventually get their grand wedding at the San Agustin Church, no less. The preparations for the episode reportedly cost a whopping P3 million.
6. On the Wings of Love (2015-2016)
The main premise of this romantic comedy is how Leah (Nadine Lustre) marries Clark (James Reid) so she can be allowed to stay in the United States and work for a living. But, as we all know by now, there’s more to a Pinoy teleserye than just that. The two fake it—and eventually fall in love with each other. The wedding-with-real-feelings at the end of the series is already grand enough, what with an actual same-day edit video, but what makes it extra swoonworthy is that Reid actually co-wrote Clark’s vows. On top of that, while the pre-recorded wedding episode was airing, the finale cuts to the couple surprising fans at a live viewing wearing their wedding outfits and sharing a kiss on stage!
5. Marimar (2007-2008)
It’s hard to believe it’s been more than 10 years since the first Marimar teleserye in the Philippines aired. (It is, of course, patterned after the Mexican telenovela of the same name.) The complex story of the rich and successful Sergio (Dingdong Dantes) and the naive and beautiful Marimar (Marian Rivera) has always charmed the hearts of viewers with the story of revenge, love, money, and family. There was a remake of the teleserye in 2015, but the 2007 version remains a classic. And you can’t beat the cultural impact it had—after all, this project brought Rivera and Dantes together! The live wedding episode itself—which lasted two hours—was the most elegant of its time, with celebrities like Rufa Mae Quinto, German Moreno, Arci Muñoz, and Tim Yap attending the event while Regine Velasquez and Ogie Alcasid serve as singers. There are even dogs that act as a ring-bearer and a flower girl. Marimar sheds a few tears and you can see Sergio tearing up as he waits for his bride at the altar. There’s also the tight embrace they share at the end of the aisle. It’s almost like it was actually Rivera and Dantes’ wedding (that happened seven years later!).
4. Be Careful With My Heart (2012-2014)
When it was still airing, this teleserye was everyone’s go-to—and for good reason. The story revolves around Maya (Jodi Sta. Maria), a kind-hearted nanny to the arrogant Richard (Richard Yap) a.k.a. Ser Chief’s children. The family’s matriarch passed away, leaving the family broken while Maya picks up the pieces. As she does so, she falls in love with the kids, and eventually with Richard as well. One of the show’s 622 episodes was the much-anticipated wedding of the two, which had its own same-day edit video made by none other than Jason Magbanua himself. The video shows them getting ready for the big day before sharing teary-eyed vows at the altar. The wedding singer was even Jose Mari Chan! Fans of the long-running series were treated to a swoonworthy happy ending for their two fave characters.
3. Pangako Sa’yo (2000-2002)
Just like Marimar, this unforgettable teleserye also spawned its own remake. It was a fairly good version that also had good ratings, but there’s still no beating the original. Housemaid Yna (Kristine Hermosa) and heir to the family fortune Angelo (Jericho Rosales) fall for each other, but as they learn more about their real identities, they find out that they might actually be half-siblings. They eventually sort it out and plan to get married, only for their wedding to be foiled by a gun-toting Claudia (Jean Garcia) who wants to kill everyone who caused her pain. While it’ll almost be two decades since it aired, almost everyone who’s watched it is sure to still remember the thrill of watching a great confrontation scene complete with tears, shouting, and a disrupted wedding.
2. Wildflower (2017-2018)
If this wedding episode of this drama series were to be summed up, it basically puts the “wild” in “Wildflower.” After her parents were killed by the evil Ardiente family, Lily Cruz (Maja Salvador) vows to have her revenge and changes her name to Ivy Aguas so the family won’t know that she’s still alive. Her plan then involves seducing and getting married to Arnaldo (RK Bagatsing) of the Ardiente family, so she can infiltrate and take control of their clan. When they’re finally at the wedding, Lily dons a gorgeous black gown, and as they exchange vows, she finds out that he actually killed Carlota, whom she considers her second mom. Lily goes berserk while Arnaldo kneels and begs her for forgiveness. He eventually pulls out a gun and starts shooting, accidentally hitting Lily. Since the wedding is being televised in multiple areas given the characters' political stature, viewers also get to witness everyone's shocked reactions with what’s unfolding right before their eyes.
1. Kalyeserye (2015-2016)
There’s nothing like an elaborate wedding to top off a whirlwind love affair—even if it’s just on screen. With a beautiful gown by Barcelona’s Rosa Clara, Yaya Dub (Maine Mendoza) finally wed Alden Richards at the Shrine of Jesus the Divine Word in Quezon City. The whole episode even came with pre-nup photos and its own film by Jason Magbanua. There were groomsmen, bridesmaids, and ninongs and ninangs including Irma Adlawan, Helen Gamboa-Sotto, Mike Enriquez, and Joey de Leon. The one-and-a-half-hour long event was every bit of a wedding that you could imagine, including a highly anticipated kiss by the two onscreen lovers. It’ll be a while before any other show would top off this super-extra, detailed, and grand wedding.
