Aliya Surf Camp and Resort is one of the few beachfront accommodations in Baler that features a very inviting swimming pool. It attracts more guests by adding rows of rooms made of shipping containers in March 2018. Called the Cube, each can accommodate two people for P3,500 and has its own toilet and bath, a dining table, a living room with television, and a small kitchen.

Glamp Vans, managed and owned by Casa Antonio Vacations, gives a different spin to glamping (or glamorous camping) by making use of upcycled shipping containers instead of tents. You can find two air-conditioned units of 40-foot container apartments with view decks right in front of the beach, a perfect spot to witness the sunrise that Batangas is known for. There's also an outdoor kitchen with grill for cooking your meals.

Dipaculao, Baler's equally beautiful but less crowded town, is home to a cool backpackers' paradise called Côte Resort. It features six huge container vans tucked in the middle of a wide coconut plantation, which owner Enrique Sola made sure to be as untouched as possible during construction. Aside from providing accommodation, the resort also offers nightly bonfires, full-board home-cooked meals, and unlimited surfing lessons.

Surfer-architects Buji Libarnes and Nikki dela Paz-Libarnes built their home in La Union out of container vans, so it doesn't come as a surprise that they're sharing this sustainable and cool style of accommodation to visitors in their surf town. They opened Vessel Hostel in December 2016, and has since welcomed guests into their multi-level hostel with 22 beds split into air-conditioned dormitories. You don't even have to worry about going off into the sea hungry because they serve continental breakfast on the roof deck.

Eco Hotel, a chain of hotels in the Philippines that practices environmentally responsible lodging, pushed the boundaries of upcycling and opened Containers by Eco Hotel in November 2017. Already on its second Tagaytay property, the new spot makes use of 30 shipping containers as rooms, old tires as chairs and tables, and wine bottles and metal pipes as lamps. Rates for its smallest room start at P2,700, while the family room is at P6,700.
