(SPOT.ph) Where most coffee joints are dark and brooding and ever so slightly intimidating, White Camp Coffee & Kitchen is a beacon of anti-gloom in this caffeine-driven world. That's exactly the vibe brother-sister duo (plus three partners) Ray and Diane Gollon wants to achieve.
Over the course of about half a year, they acquired a space in Quezon City and got to work on what they call “a bright space for infinite coffee and dining adventures.” It's an unusual take on a café, but like some of their dishes’ flavor combinations, it all works out somehow.
“I was inspired by [other specialty-coffee places] both locally and internationally. I've always been a coffee lover,” says Ray, “But I'm definitely not a purist. We took a risk [with the menu] but I think it paid off.”
Korean Fried Chicken
Flat White
Risk is just one way to describe it; you've probably never thought of pairing Korean Fried Chicken (P279) with a Flat White (P130), no matter how well either of them are done, but this just...works. And with that kimchi fried rice? We could almost say that Asian-inspired comfort food never looked so fine. (Except that's super niche, so we won't go there.) Don't even think about trying to keep up a conversation. You won't be able to. Literally—it's pretty dang spicy.
Cheesy Wonton with Truffle Honey
Brioche Grilled Cheese
The Cheesy Wonton with Truffle Honey (P165) is another item that doesn’t quite sound right, but again, it works. The crunch and salty hit of these little bites cut through the honey, and you don't quite know where the umami ends and the sweetness begins, and you're kind of at a loss, but you're just happy to be there. Their Brioche Grilled Cheese (P249) hits several similar notes, but the marinara on the side is what really makes it. They maintain the natural tartness of stewed tomatoes, cutting through the brioche just right.
S'mores Waffle

Espresso Soda
Watch for the Bubble Waffle, coming soon
The S'mores Waffle (P210) is almost cake-like in its sweetness, and definitely meant to be shared. Paired with the Espresso Soda (P150), the fizzy bitterness perfectly cuts through the sugar and balances everything out. (And watch for their new Bubble Waffle, which is hitting the menu soon!) Although any of their sweet treats would go with the Long Black (P120), because those are the rules.
Signature Frozen Chocolate
If you ever wanted to take your significant other to one of those old soda parlors—think old-school Riverdale—and sip on a single milkshake, then the Signature Frozen Chocolate (P165) is right up your alley. It's a bit on the sweet side, so make sure you've got a good relationship with your dentist.
Throw in one of the most chill playlists you will ever hear, a bright atmosphere, and some good, old-fashioned passion, and you've got this winner. White Camp is a good starting haunt for novice and casual coffee drinkers—in general, it's a great place to be. Go forth, QC dwellers, and show them some love.
