(SPOT.ph) Here's another reason to finally visit the breathtaking paradise of Palawan—the San Vicente Airport will finally be inaugurated tomorrow, May 10! Capping off a nine-year wait since the beginning of its construction in 2009, the opening of the air terminal to commercial flights will make it easier for tourists to visit the municipality of San Vicente and neighboring areas such as Puerto Princesa.

Although its architecture and design pales in comparison to that of the planned Clark International Airport, the San Vicente Airport will do wonders for the eponymous town in terms of  tourism and awareness. A Palawan village that's just as beautiful as Coron and El Nido but not as crowded, San Vicente boasts having the country's longest white-sand beach, and is touted by many to be the next Boracay. (Hopefully, not the tourism nightmare part.) The newly inaugurated airport is expected to accommodate additional flights directed to this town.

There are some concerns about the construction of yet another airport in the area (Palawan currently has five), and its ramifications in terms of its environmental impact and the rapid commercialization of the island province. In spite of that, it can't be denied that the opening of San Vicente Airport will make it easier for the world to see the beauty of the Philippines. Will you be catching a flight to San Vicente soon?
