(SPOT.ph) While living in the Metro may seem convenient—not to mention it does, admittedly, have its charms—it can also feel a little suffocating. Sometimes, especially at the start of a new year, all you want is to take a breather in some place that’s bright, vibrant, and far away from Manila’s busy atmosphere. But what if that the escape may not be that far away after all?

Flossom Kitchen + Café is a charming new restaurant in San Juan City, and its garden-inspired interiors will make you feel like you’re worlds away. The spacious restaurant looks like tita heaven, with rustic wooden furniture and wall décor, plus an abundance of fresh flowers that immediately brighten up the place. They even have a “flower wall,” designed by events stylist Teddy Manuel, with fresh flowers they replace every one to two weeks. It’s impossible not to feel your spirits lifting as soon as you step inside, which was exactly the goal of owners Jessica Wong and Betrina Lee.

“We wanted the place to be airy, and for people to immediately feel relaxed and comforted. Like there’s no rush when you stay here,” shares marketing manager Janna Arceo.

You won’t be in a hurry to leave, especially once you get started on their comfort-food-with-a-twist. Jessica, who used to work at UCC Coffee, is in charge of the savory dishes, while Betrina, a pastry chef, handles the sweets. “Everything on the menu is a favorite,” says Janna. “Jessica, especially, she likes to take classic dishes and add her own little touches to them.”

Ube Champorado

The sunny interiors and relaxed vibe will put you in the mood for brunch, so you’ll be glad to know that Flossom offers all-day breakfast. With ube becoming even buzzier lately, you shouldn’t miss Flossom’s Ube Champorado (P280). Even purists will fall in love with this champorado’s nuttier flavor. With a generous topping of dilis and yema sauce for a lipsmacking sweet-salty combo, this is one bowl you won’t forget for quite a long time.

Ultimate English Breakfast

If you and your friends are feeling extra hungry, however, treat yourself to the Ultimate English Breakfast (P650), a massive tray laden with lots of breakfast goodies, from crunchy baguettes and fluffy pancakes, to ham and what’s probably one of the best bacon in the Metro.

Buffalo Mac & Cheese

But if there’s something Flossom does excellently, it’s taking your favorite dishes and giving them a fresh twist that’ll make you go ‘why haven’t I thought of this before?’ Their take on the macaroni and cheese, the Buffalo Mac & Cheese (P320) has a mac ‘n cheese base that sticks close to the familiar creamy, comfortingly rich flavor. But the Buffalo chicken tenders that sit on top of the pasta have a distinct vinegary tang and heat that adds depth to the dish, and just pairs so well with the cheese.

Truffle and Egg

The Tiramisu (P150) is almost too pretty to eat!

A surprise standout is the Truffle and Egg (P300). Imagine your childhood egg salad sandwich, except with flavors amped up to a hundred. The distinct earthiness of truffle oil—and they don’t hold back at all—and the buttery croissant meld in your mouth with the familiar egg chunks to create what can only be described as a tasty explosion.

The next time you feel like you’re drowning in the stress of a busy city, head to Flossom for a quick break. Fresh flowers and hearty comfort food can do wonders, and you’ll be ready to face the world again in no time—especially when you know you have a garden escape you can head to any time you want, right in the Metro.
