The NBA G League Ignite are still undefeated in their inaugural run in the developmental ranks after a 97-90 comeback win against the Iowa Wolves on Monday, February 15 (Tuesday, February 16, Manila time) at the Disney World bubble in Orlando, Florida.

Fil-Am star prospect Jalen Green had his best game yet with a team-high 22 points, 10 coming off the free-throw line on a 5/7 clip as he took advantage of the league’s one free-throw for 2 points scoring scheme for the first 46 minutes of regulation.

Green also added 6 rebounds, 5 assists, and a steal while fellow star Jonathan Kuminga limped to a 7-point, 7-board finish on a 3/13 clip in 34 minutes.

Key bench prospects Daishen Nix and Isaiah Todd added 8 and 6 markers, respectively, as Indian big man Princepal Singh again failed to see action.

After giving up a 9-0 run bridging the 3rd and 4th quarters for the 78-67 Wolves lead, the unfazed Ignite squad steadily chipped away at the deficit until Nix drilled a triple to get within 3, 79-82, with 7:05 left.

As Iowa forward Charlie Brown, Jr answered with a 3 of his own for the 85-79 lead, Ignite’s young guns conspired for a game-clinching 13-0 response capped by a Hall jumper with 2:09 left in regulation for the 92-85 advantage.

Although the Wolves clawed back within 4, 90-94, Green shut the door on their comeback hopes for good with a dagger layup off the Nix assist, 96-90, with 12.2 ticks left. Kuminga then added a one-point free-throw to complete the hard-earned win.

Iowa’s tallest player and default big man, 6-foot-8 Tyler Cook, led with a game-high 24 points, and 11 rebounds while former New York Knicks sniper Allonzo Trier added 17 markers in the losing effort.

Ignite, who are soon getting back Filipino wunderkind Kai Sotto, will try to extend their unbeaten run in the G League on Thursday, February 18, Manila time, as they face the Erie Bayhawks led by former NBA forwards Jordan Bell and Omari Spellman. – Rappler.com
