(SPOT.ph) When you think fried chicken for brunch, your mind probably immediately goes to chicken and waffles. It's not surprising, given how long the hearty breakfast combination has been around: The popular combo first became popular in the U.S. in the 1600s, and became known as classic soul food when it was first offered by Wells Supper Club in Harlem in 1938 (if this tidbit got you interested, here's where you can read more about chicken-and-waffles' rich history).
So, yes, it doesn't get more classic than chicken and waffles, but why should waffle lovers get all the fun? What about the good portion of the population that prefers round, fluffy pancakes? Well, McDonald's has your back because they've just launched a new breakfast item: Chicken McDo & Hotcakes (P110/Ã la carte, P130/with coffee, P160/with coffee and hashbrown)!
Pretty much what makes the chicken-and-waffles combo work is its sweet-savory flavor profile and hearty, comforting quality. You get the same sweet fix with their signature hotcakes, and any pancake lover will tell you that the cake's creamy smoothness makes it a joy to spread butter all over it. Then you get Chicken McDo, with its satisfying crackle and a subtle peppery flavor that makes it the perfect complement to the pancakes. Douse everything in McDonald's siganture maple-flavored syrup, and you might just find yourself with a new morning favorite.
See a list of McDonald's branches. Breakfast is only available from 4 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
