(SPOT.ph) Picture an izakaya and you'd probably think dark, broody interiors and open-air dining spaces with the smell of charcoal and cigarette smoke wafting in the air. Though their flagship in Shibuya is as traditional as it gets, Toritake's first branch outside of Japan has a brighter vibe, with light-wood interiors and glass windows that make the space look sunlit in the daytime.
While the ambience may be miles apart, the menu at Toritake PH is just like its Japanese counterpart. Expect an all-chicken menu—tori, after all, means "chicken" in Japanese while take means "bamboo"—and the yakitori restaurant showcases almost the entire bird. If this beak-to-tail approach sounds intimidating, try the Chicken Tail, which are like your regular bites but more succulent. Aside from yakitori, Toritake also offers chicken done in other styles like karaage and a hearty chicken soup. And because no izakaya is complete without libations, they're offering Japanese whiskey, beer, sake, and highballs.
Toritake opens today at 2/F UP Town Center, Katipunan Avenue, Diliman, Quezon City.
