(SPOT.ph) The local art scene has seen a definite shift in recent years, consistently gathering momentum and attracting a more mainstream audience. What better way to celebrate this newfound interest for art than checking out a wide range of exhibits? For this month, we go on interesting journeys as artists guide us with the power of their imagination.
"Landfill" by Isobel Francisco
Disposable Lives
In Disposable Lives, visual artist Isobel Francisco explores how human lives ultimately face inevitable decay, an idea which she compares to the imagery of a garbage bag. In this exhibit, “waste” becomes the central point of the artist’s observations on human ruin.
The exhibit runs from July 17 to 30 at Ayala Museum, Makati Avenue corner De La Rosa Street, Greenbelt Park, Makati City. For more information, visit Ayala Museum’s website.

Dimensional Reality
There is geometrical chaos in Benjie Torrado Cabrera’s works. The way lines meet at certain points and the way curves arc in certain edges produce a wholesome image etched by the artist’s skillful hands.
The exhibit runs from July 5 to 29 at Altro Mondo, 3/F Greenbelt 5, Ayala Center, Makati City. For more information, visit Altro Mondo’s website.

"Behind Flower" by Imam Santoso
Whispering Symphony
A lonely subject goes under the spotlight in Indonesian pop surrealist artist Imam Santoso’s 12-piece show: A solitary faceless figure situated in a vast landscape bordered by repetitive organic forms. The artistic representation of the void that patterns try to fill in the pictorial plane is a testament to the 32-year-old artist’s well-developed visual language.
The exhibit runs from July 6 to 20 at Galerie Stephanie, 4/F East Wing, Shangri-La Plaza Mall, Mandaluyong City. For more information, visit Galerie Stephanie’s website.

Untitled art piece by Jan Balquin
An End
Jan Balquin continues to explore the "wall" as a form in An End, surveying not only its materiality as a boundary enforcing limitations but also as a starting point, a source for reflection and introspection. Here, Balquin dwells on the complexities of "end" as a conclusion, a limit, and a beginning.
The exhibit runs from July 5 to 31 at Artinformal, The Alley at Karrivin, 2316 Chino Roces Avenue Extension, Makati City. For more information, visit Artinformal’s website.

Wild Orchids
Palettes of blues, pinks, and browns set against interiors of cream and deep blue serve as the visual backdrop for Christina Dy’s immersive solo exhibit at the Space Encounters Gallery. Dy’s works in various media—from framed artwork to pretty wallpaper and even classic mid-century furniture—all done in dainty botanical patterns coalescing with silhouettes of masculine forms, reflect the artist’s admiration for the naked masculine figure and her love for orchids.
The exhibit runs until July 26 at the Space Encounters Gallery, Unit 7D, 7/F Padilla Building, F. Ortigas Jr. Road, Ortigas Center, Pasig City. For more information, visit Space Encounters Gallery’s website.

Utopia Hasn’t Failed Me Yet
In Utopia Hasn’t Failed Me Yet, curator and artist Gary-Ross Pastrana echoes aspects of On Kawara’s date paintings—art pieces that consist entirely of the date on which the painting was executed in simple white lettering set against a solid background. He eventually set out to develop his own technique in collage-making which started in late 2017.
The exhibit runs from July 7 to August 4 at Silverlens, 2263 Chino Roces Avenue, Makati City. For more information, visit Silverlens’ website.

Harmony
Lush, green springs and bright trees against dark night skies gives emphasis to the abstract impressionist view on nature of Korean visual artist Su Bok Kim. Her paintings are rendered in the style of pointillism where countless dots and points of various colors and sizes come together to form one bigger picture.
The exhibit runs until July 15 at Ayala Museum, Makati Avenue corner De la Rosa Street, Greenbelt Park, Makati City. For more information, visit Ayala Museum’s website.

Zones
Gina Osterloh’s photographic practice embodies the printed image, drawing, film, and performance to explore the resonances between the physical body and its representational imprint, trace, or stand-in. In Zones, the artist carries her trademark anti-portrait strategies into the realm of abstract schemata. Dots, dashes, circles, lines, and comma shapes appear inside and outside delineated frameworks that tease the viewer with the possibility of meaning but refuse to indicate precisely how to view them.
The exhibit runs from July 7 to August 4 at Silverlens, 2263 Chino Roces Avenue, Makati City. For more information, visit Silverlens’ website.

Distortions of Reality
Jinggoy Buensuceso’s work evokes bold statements through clean lines with organic forms. In Distortions of Reality, he highlights two pieces: “Supernova,” a molten aluminum work that resembles the beginning of the cosmos, and “Lego and the Gundam,” a playful assemblage of the toys he acquired during his college days.
The exhibit runs from July 7 to August 25 at Galleria Duemila, 210 Loring Street, Pasay City. For more information, visit Galleria Duemila’s website.
