(SPOT.ph) The Land Transportation Office has been trying to address delays in the releasing of driver's licenses and motor vehicle plates since the backlog began in January 2015. But it looks like the wait for vehicle plates is finally over—Land Transportation Office (LTO) Assistant Secretary Edgar Galvante announced today, June 20, that license plates registered from July 1 to October 31, 2016 will finally be released to their owners in the first week of July 2018. Plates for vehicles purchased between January 2015 and June 2016 are still under litigation.

Assistant Sec. Galvante reported that the license plates are currently being shipped to the LTO regional offices in batches, for distribution to LTO District Offices, which will be in charge of releasing the plates to vehicle owners. Despite the three-year backlog, the LTO has been steadily producing the plates ever since the inauguration of its new plate-making plant on April 24, 2018. Since then, over 387,000 plates have been produced.
The LTO Central Office will be notifying the vehicle owners of the specific date of their plates' release, as well as the guidelines for distribution.
