(SPOT.ph) Since its implementation in November 2017, Taiwan's nine-month visa-free travel program has brought a continuous stream of Filipino tourists onto their shores. If you're regretting not taking advantage of the country's visa-free entry before the end date, don't worry—Taiwanese Minister Without Portfolio Chang Ching-sen announced on June 27 that the trial visa-free travel program will be extended for another year, until July 31, 2019.
Minister Chang says that the program was extended in order to continuously boost Taiwan's tourism industry. Ever since the program was launched in 2017, around 290,000 Filipinos have visited Taiwan, as compared to 172,000 from the previous year. Along with the Philippines, citizens from Brunei and Thailand will also have visa-free entry into the country, for a maximum of 14 days per visit.
As the program is still temporary, Filipino tourists can enjoy visa-free entry into Taiwan as long as they meet the following requirements:
- A regular passport with remaining validity of at least six months from the date of entry
- A return ticket or a ticket to the traveler's next destination
- Zero criminal record in Taiwan
- Proof of accommodation, host's contact information, or arrangement of tours, visit, events, meetings, etc.
So it's probably a good idea to brush up on the sights and eats Taiwan has to offer. Will you be grabbing a flight to Taipei or Taichung soon?
