(SPOT.ph) If you're already excited about the upcoming Captain Marvel movie for its depiction of a strong female character in the lead, you're in for a treat. At the recent Producers' Guild of America's Produced By Conference 2018, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige discussed his plans for the superhero-entertainment franchise's Phase Four—and it looks like a Ms. Marvel film is in the works!
Feige shared the awesome announcement during the session, along with news of different incarnations of beloved characters from the comics and more female directors in the franchise. Ms. Marvel, also known as Kamala Khan, is a young Pakistani girl who is inspired by Captain Marvel to become a superhero. While Khan isn’t the first Muslim superhero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, she is slated to become the first prominent Muslim lead, and possibly a new character that minorities can rally behind.
“We wanted to get Captain Marvel out there first so that there is something for a young Muslim girl to get inspired by,” Feige said.
In the past, Feige had mentioned Marvel's intent to do a Ms. Marvel film after they’ve introduced Captain Marvel to the world. The film, which stars Brie Larson in the titular role, is still in production and is scheduled to hit theaters worldwide on March 8, 2019.
