(SPOT.ph) There have been quite a few screen adaptations of John Green's novels over the years. You might remember bawling your eyes out when you watched Hazel (Shailene Woodley) and Gus (Ansel Elgort) try to map out their new relationship while both of them battle cancer. You've also gotten lost with Nat Wolff and model-turned-actress Cara Delevingne when they starred in Paper Towns. But what John Green fans have long been waiting for is an adaptation of his first novel, Looking for Alaska—and they're finaly getting it.
Hulu has just ordered an eight-episode miniseries based on the bestselling novel. It will be helmed by Stephanie Savage and Josh Schwartz, the brains behind The O.C. (which is probably another one of your favorites growing up). According to a report by Deadline, multiple directors and writers have been attached to a movie adaptation of the book. That is, until Schwartz—who's been attached to the project for 13 years—brought up the idea of having it as a miniseries. Schwartz and Savage are the showrunners of Marvel's Runaways (also on Hulu) as well as CW's Dynasty. Hulu is also behind the critically acclaimed TV adaptation of The Handmaid's Tale.
Looking for Alaska tells the story of Miles "Pudge" Halter, who starts studying in a boarding school where he meets and falls in love with Alaska Young. As Pudge tries to find a different perspective on life while going through his own personal problems, he and his friends also try to piece together the events leading up to Alaska's unexpected death.
The novel was published in 2005 and it won the Michael L. Printz Award from the American Library Association in 2006. But it only entered the New York Times Best Seller list when The Fault in Our Stars was published in 2012. There's no word yet on when the limited series will premiere, but that just means you have more time to read the book again!
