(SPOT.ph) With the number of live-action flicks hitting theaters lately, at this point, kids and kids-at-heart should probably already have a checklist of all the ones they're going to line up for at the cinemas. And we don't blame them. It's always exciting to see a story you grew up hearing or reading about finally come to life on the big screen—the latest one being a dark retelling of a childhood favorite: Mowgli. It's set to premiere in Philippine theaters on October 18.
Based on Rudyard Kipling's famous stories from The Jungle Book, Mowgli is the eponymous story of a young human boy (Rohan Chand) who is raised in the jungles of India by a pack of wolves. He learns about the rules of the wild from a bear named Baloo (Andy Serkis) and Bagheera (Christian Bale) the panther. The other animals start to accept Mowgli into their world, except for the fearsome tiger Shere Khan (Benedict Cumberbatch). Mowgli has to figure out his life as one of the animals in the jungle while also confronting the human life he has left behind.
Serkis, who plays Baloo, is also the director of the film. The already star-studded cast also includes Cate Blanchett, Freida Pinto, and Naomie Harris, among others. It's produced by Steve Kloves, who wrote seven of the Harry Potter movies.
Mowgli premieres on October 18.
