(SPOT.ph) If you live in Bulacan but travel to and from Manila on a regular basis, then things are really looking up for you commute-wise. The recent opening of the Plaridel Bypass Road already trims down travel time from Bulacan to the Metro to 45 minutes, but if you don't drive, there's no need to feel left out—the new North-South Commuter Railway, which began its construction January of this year, is a new train system that promises to get you from Bulacan to Manila in only 35 minutes.
Spanning a length of about 37.9 kilometers from Malolos to Tutuban, the North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) can accommodate 300,000 passengers on a daily basis. The project is partially funded by a loan from the Japan International Cooperation Agency, and the Department of Transportation opened bidding for the project's construction on May 20. The NSCR also serves as the first phase of the Philippine National Railways' plans to establish a massive train system connecting Metro Manila to its nearby provinces—in the long-term, the railway will be connected to two planned railways: the Philippine National Railway (PNR) North 2, which will run all the way to what will soon be the Clark International Airport, and the PNR South Commuter, which will extend to Los Baños, Laguna.
It will be quite a wait though until the NSCR will be opened to the public—the railway is expected to complete its construction in December 2021. Nevertheless, we're looking forward to a train system that not only cuts travel time significantly, but also goes beyond the confines of the Metro.
