(SPOT.ph) It's been a while since we last saw the love team of Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil on the small screen. While Liza has been busy shooting the latest movie adaptation of Darna with Erik Matti, Enrique recently starred in the family drama Seven Sundays. The duo's teleserye together was 2016's rom-com series, Dolce Amore.

Fans were excited to learn that the two will have a brand new teleserye, this time an action-packed fantasy series called Bagani. In a report by ABS-CBN, Enrique expounds about the show's premise, saying, "Para siyang bayani. It’s the story about how the Philippines—‘di ba archipelagic tayo—how the Philippines was born. It’s about our culture."

The teleserye is set to premiere on March 5, but it has already drawn flak on social media for its casting choices after the release of its teaser. Social media users argue that a show about a prehistoric Philippines shouldn't have cast actors with foreign features. Some even took a jab at the makeup used by the actors to make them appear darker.

Others also suggested a replacement for the cast, citing Ylona Garcia, who was actually originally considered for a role, but had to back out due to scheduling conflicts.

Meanwhile, fans of the duo argue that Bagani isn't about pre-colonial Philippines (in contrast to Enrique's earlier interview), but rather, about fantasy myths in the Philippines.

The producers of the show have yet to issue a statement.
