(SPOT.ph) Award-winning auteur Lav Diaz is no stranger to international film festivals. In 2016, his movie Ang Babaeng Humayo (The Woman Who Left), starring Charo Santos-Concio and John Lloyd Cruz won the prestigious Golden Lion at the Venice International Film Festival. In the same year, his film Hele Sa Hiwagang Hapis (A Lullaby to the Sorrowful Mystery) competed at the Berlin International Film Festival and became the first Filipino movie to win the Alfred Bauer Prize.

Now, he is slated to come back to the Berlin International Film Festival a.k.a. Berlinale with his latest work, Ang Panahon ng Halimaw (Season of the Devil). Starring Piolo Pascual and Shaina Magdayao, the black-and-white film is a musical set in a remote area in the Philippines overrun by militia groups during the Martial Law era. Diaz and Pascual last worked together in Hele Sa Hiwagang Hapis.

The film, which is three hours and 50 minutes long, has a star-studded cast which includes Angel Aquino, Pinky Amador, Hazel Orencio, Bituin Escalante, Joel Saracho, Bart Guingona, and Lilit Reyes.

Ang Panahon ng Halimaw will be one out of 24 films competing in the main competition of the Berlinale, one of the most prestigious film festivals in the world, right alongside Venice and Cannes. The film festival will be held on February 15 to 25 in Germany.
