(SPOT.ph) Days after turning the Skyway into another EDSA (read: traffic at a standstill) and causing public outrage, Skyway O&M Corporation released on January 30 a statement saying that they will "temporarily revert to the old 'pay as you enter' scheme for private vehicles coming from Alabang, Sucat, and Bicutan." This was immediately implemented at 10 p.m. on Tuesday night. Only Class 2 vehicles (buses and delivery vans) are now required to use the new Runway Toll Plaza for cash payments.

Traffic slowed to a crawl on the expresswayand alternative to Manila's busiest thoroughfarewhen the new toll plaza on the northbound section opened on January 26. Instead of passing through only one toll booth to complete their payment transactions, motorists had to stop at another booth to surrender the thermal receipt. This caused a traffic bottleneck for cars coming from the south, and added at least two hours to travel time going to the airport.

"As always, we continue to adjust to our motorists' needs, and that includes exploring better ways to implement this transition to a new collection system in the future. We still believe the new system can benefit a greater number of people over the long term," Skyway management asserts in the statement.

As of writing, the Skyway's traffic flow is reportedly back to normal.
